2011 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Jodi Jones
I was so excited when I found that the Town of Shelburne was starting a theatre group. My husband Tom and I, and our young family, had recently relocated to Shelburne and loved the idea of getting out and meeting like-minded others. Tom had done some acting with the Caledon community theatre group and had really enjoyed himself. I was never quite brave enough to want to be onstage, but I had once done hair and makeup professionally with Opera Saskatchewan and loved the excitement of backstage hustle and bustle.

We weren't sure exactly what we had to offer when we attended the first meeting but loved the idea of interacting socially with other adults - especially me, after having been home having babies for the previous four years! So, we offered our services, and things were found for us to do (mostly things we had never done before). We had became part of something new and exciting, were meeting new people, socializing and using our artistic talents - all for a mere $25 a year, with no pressure to give more time than we had available to give. It doesn’t get much better than that!

We have made some amazing friendships through TSC, and the amount of time, effort and talent that it takes to put on a show still astounds me, as do the brilliant the people we get to play and work with. I have great hope for the future of the Tipling Stage Company and I encourage anybody interested in theatre to come out and see what we have to offer. It’s always something different and, I promise, never boring - a great opportunity to do something in your community, for your community, in an environment where the sky is the limit!

I started meeting with a group of half a dozen or so people who wondered how a theatre group would go over in Shelburne. More people became interested and, in the fall of 2008, we presented Neil Simon's
Plaza Suite. It was very successful. Since then, TSC has been staging two plays a year and a Christmas production. I have been everything from producer to set builder, painter to front of house person to set-up and break down grunt. I've sat on the executive, first as treasure and now as secretary and I have a great time. Come out and join us - this is a fun group and, like the rest of us, you'll enjoy helping to serve Shelburne's entertainment needs.

Bob Turnbull, Secretary.

Debbie Tait
I took the plunge into theatre in a moment of boredom when TSC's first production,
Plaza Suite was presented and have been hooked ever since. I auditioned for the next production, Busybody, and was cast as Miss Selby and, from there, progressed into Producing, Assistant Directing, Stage Managing and continued Acting, too. Nominally Treasurer, I'm really a Jack of all Trades and love all aspects of the theatre behind and on the stage. Every production introduces you to a whole new set of friends and soul mates. If you want to meet people and get involved, this is it! In a time frame of 10 weeks, you get to know each other better than some people you have known for years! The question is, who do you get to know, the person who originally came for the audition or the character they have become?

Debbie Tait, Treasurer.

Jean Miller
I've always loved theatre and, on moving to Shelburne and discovering a new, fledgling company here, thought I'd really like to get involved again. I attended an audition and didn't get a part. In my experience, after auditions for community theatre, crew and front-of-house 'roles' are filled, but I never heard from anybody and I'm afraid I assumed that new members weren't really needed. How wrong I was! Eighteen months later, I auditioned again and, this time was cast. Soon, in addition to acting, I was creating and distributing the advertising, locating props, making props and even baking cookies for the audience to eat at intermission! So, the moral of my story is that, if community theatre is your thing, don't be put off by appearances - we only look as if we're bursting at the seams with members. In reality, experienced and non-experienced theatre enthusiasts are truly welcome. Click here for membership details.

Jean Miller, Vice President.
