ABOUT TSC
The Tipling Stage Company presented its first production, Neil Simon's Plaza Suite in October 2008 in the Grace Tipling Concert Hall, Shelburne. It is currently producing two plays per season, as well as a Christmas production involving other community groups.
The Grace Tipling Concert Hall is located in the Shelburne Town Hall. It was designed by Frank Grant Dunbar and constructed in 1882 and provided a venue for both professional and community stage productions, and even movies in the days before television, in the town for more than fifty years. In the early years, it was the home of the Quadrille Assembly, the Philharmonic Society, the Ladies Silver Trumpet Band and Dance Orchestra among others.
When Grace Tipling, an eighty year resident of Shelburne died in 1992, leaving her valuable Bell Telephone stock to the Town of Shelburne, the money was used to renovate the hall and it was named in her honour. Today, it is a traditional small town theatre, with enviable acoustics, where every seat is provided an unhindered view of the stage, and wheelchair and elevator access.
Members of the Tipling Stage Company (TSC) are unpaid volunteers, governed by a formal Constitution and By-laws. Players must be members in order to participate in productions. TSC is a member of ACT-CO - Association of Community Theatres of Central Ontario - and selected productions are submitted for adjudication in competition with other member theatre groups. The primary objective of the company, however, is to provide desirable entertainment to the residents of Shelburne and the adjacent communities.
The Tipling Stage Company logo was designed by Bronagh Foster, a Shelburne area freelance artist and designer, originally from Ireland. Moving away from the more usual variations on theatre's comedy/tragedy mask symbol she has created a simple image incorporating a mask and the company's name that has impact and memorability.
